The Texans could be without star rookie running back Dameon Pierce after he injured an ankle last Sunday. Pierce, who leads rookies with 939 yards rushing, has been one of the only bright spots in Houston's terrible season. The Chiefs could have wide receiver Kadarius Toney back this week after missing most of the past four games with a hamstring injury. They also hope to add Mecole Hardman, who recently came off injured reserve for an abdominal issue, though it's possible he is another week or two away. "We understand it's going to be a great challenge for us, so we're going to go out there and play our best football to win." Those who got lucky with them against the spread this past Sunday might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
The team introduced Herm Edwards, a former Chiefs scout and head coach of the New York Jets, as the team's tenth head coach after trading a fourth-round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft to the Jets. Quarterback Trent Green suffered a severe concussion in the team's season opener to the Cincinnati Bengals which left him out of play for eight weeks. Backup quarterback Damon Huard took over in Green's absence and led the Chiefs to a 5–3 record. Following Schottenheimer's resignation, defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham took over coaching duties for the next two seasons, compiling a 16–16 record. After allegedly reading online that he would be relieved of duties, head coach Gunther Cunningham was fired.

Hunt reverted to red and gold for the Texans' uniforms, which even after the team relocated to Kansas City, remain as the franchise's colors to this day. On television, as is with other American Football Conference teams, CBS (and thus, KCTV ) broadcasts most of the team's games. If they are hosting a National Football Conference team, the games air on Fox (WDAF-TV ).

For some fans, now is the time to pull out the calendars and see what one or two games they have the best shot at getting in the stadium to see. Chiefs fans can look forward to less than half of their games in the early time slot this season. There is something about seeing a game under the lights that ramps up the excitement. It also gives fans a better time to tailgate, which we all know KC parking lots are famous for such. Finally the Pittsburgh Steelers sent a wakeup call to the Chiefs early in the season.

The defense got the message and kept the Steelers out of the endzone in their playoff meeting this January. Unfortunately the offense never found a rhythm and fell two points short of tying the game with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs first home game of the 2017 season comes against Philadelphia on Sept. 17. It will be Reid's second matchup against his former team, the last was a victory over the Eagles on Sept. 19, 2013.
Three or four losses to similar opponents and a head-to-head matchup should be the deciding factor in the AFC West race. The Raiders have lost four-straight in Kansas City and Carr has struggled when the temperature drops. The Raiders can match the Chiefs score-for-score, unless they can knock Carr down a few times.
